Presently my research is focused towards engineering and physics education and philosophy of technology. I'm especially interested in developing and studying learning environments that use artifacts for making sense - i.e. I'm interested in the role of artifacts as mediating tools for learning and development of a functional understanding of the subject-matter of inquiry. My work is thus closely related to design-based research, theories of mediated action and philosophy of technology.
Presently I'm principal
investigator for two projects who will be concluded in 2007:
- Educational conditions for meaningful learning in science
and engineering with interactive technologies (4,05 million
SEK). The Swedish Research Council. 2004 - 2007.
- Helping students to make sense of formal physics through
interactive lecture demonstrations (1,7 million SEK). Swedish
National Agency for Higher Education, The Council for the Renewal
of Higher Education. 2004 - 2007.
Previously I have been
principal investigator for the following (and other) projects:
- Experientially based physics instruction - using hands-on
experiments and computers. Swedish National Agency for Higher
Education, The Council for the Renewal of Higher Education. 1997-
2000
- Activity based education in electricity and circuit theory.
Swedish National Agency for Higher Education, The Council for
the Renewal of Higher Education. 2000 - 2003.
- Engineering and Science Education Research for Higher Education.
The Swedish Research Council. 2001 - 02.
Before turning my attention towards educational research around 1995 I have done research in Solid State Physics and Solid State Chemistry and I received a Ph D (Eng.) from Uppsala University in 1987.
